“MARING” LEAVES 9 DEAD, 11 MISSING

Nine people died while 11 were reported missing on Tuesday as Tropical Storm “Maring” continues to bring heavy rains and trigger floods and landslides in Northern Luzon.


NDRRMC, Ricardo Jalad, said on Tuesday that four people who have died were buried alive in La Trinidad and Itogon, both in Benguet. Four others were drowned in flashfloods in Narra, Palawan. While another was drowned in Claveria, Cagayan.


11 were reported missing in landslides: three in Barangay Dominican-Mirador in Baguio City, two in Central Ambiong, one in Itogon, while the rest were believed to have drowned in Badoc, Ilocos Norte and in Narra, Palawan.


According to NDRRMC, 478 families or 1,638 persons were affected by Tropical Storm “Maring” while 247 families or 850 persons were brought to evacuation centers. Palace spokesman Harry Roque, Jr. assured the public that the government is closely monitoring operations for Maring casualties.

PAGASA said that Maring will continuously bring moderate to heavy rain and strong winds in northern parts of the Philippines.


Signal No. 2 was raised in the next 24 hours over Abra, Apayao, Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of Isabela, Kalinga, and Mountain Province. While Signal No. 1 is up in the next 36 hours in the provinces of Aurora, Bulacan, Benguet, Ifugao, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quirino, Tarlac and Zambales as well as the northern portions of Bataan and Quezon and the rest of Isabela
